On August 17, Oregon Elections Director Steve Trout had the great honor of presenting former Linn County Clerk and beloved community member Del Riley with a Medallion Award from the National Association of Secretaries of State. I nominated Del for the award in recognition of his outstanding service to the people of Oregon and as the visionary of Oregon’s vote-by-mail system.
Del, who had been battling cancer at the age of 93, passed away surrounded by family on August 25. His legacy of public service is broad and far-reaching, and Oregon would not be the elections leader it is today without his contributions.
I extend my heartfelt condolences to Del’s loved ones—and when you mail your ballot this November, please take a moment to remember Del.
